ELLIOTT HESTER:  Adventures of a Continental Drifter

"Continental Drifter", Elliott Hester's syndicated travel column, is a serial travelogue that chronicles his one-year around-the-world trip. Beginning in January, 2003, the column appears in the Sunday travel sections of nine U.S. newspapers including, the Chicago Tribune, New York Newsday, The Denver Post, The Miami Herald and San Francisco Chronicle. Elliott Hester is an award-winning travel writer, syndicated columnist, and best-selling author of Plane Insanity: A Flight Attendant's Tales of Sex, Rage and Queasiness at 30,000 Feet. A funny, provocative memoir about his 16-year career as a flight attendant, the book became an instant hit with airline crews, frequent-flying passengers and armchair travelers.

Whoopi Goldberg seems to have enjoyed it as well. Although the actress/comedienne never flies (she owns a specially-equipped bus, complete with a bedroom, office and two drivers who work 8-hour shifts on cross-country trips), she recently purchased the film rights to Plane Insanity. Elliott's second memoir, Adventures of a Continental Drifter, will be published by St. Martin's Press in Sept., 2004.

Elliott has been a guest on more than 150 radio talk shows, including Fresh Air with Terry Gross, The Savvy Traveler, The Joan Rivers Show and BBC London Live. His many television appearances include The Today Show, Inside Edition, Fox & Friends (Fox Network), The Kelly Show (Belfast, Northern Ireland), The Richard & Judy Show (London) and local TV news programs such as KNBC Los Angeles, WGN Chicago and KTVU San Francisco.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Elliott's writing career began when he moved to Sydney, Australia. There, while working "off the books" as a bartender on Oxford Street, he wrote articles for the Australian editions of Elle and Playboy magazines. After a two-year stint Down Under, he returned to the U.S. and focused his efforts on travel writing. His magazine pieces have since appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Reader's Digest, Details, Maxim, Glamour, Caribbean Travel & Life, and Endless Vacation. His newspaper articles have been printed in more than forty dailies in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Recently, he gave up his Miami Beach apartment to travel around the world. Along the way, he's hoping to find the perfect place to live, write and prosper.
